MSOE’s 100-year history brought to life in new coffee-table book

Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) has just published its first comprehensive coffee-table history book.

Written by award-winning local author Ellen Langill, Ph.D., MSOE: The First 100 Years is 250 pages of anecdotes and photographs from MSOE's newly established archives and other sources. The book follows the university's founding by a 23-year-old German immigrant to becoming one of America's outstanding educational institutions.

MSOE: The First 100 Years explores how MSOE's history is closely interwoven with that of Milwaukee's industrial base, technology, and this country -- from the integration of electricity into mechanical power; to the school's decimated enrollments during The Depression; the thousands who flooded its classrooms after World War II; its expanding degree programs as computers gained importance; and the addition of a School of Nursing and Rader School of Business.

The book looks at the growth of student life such as recreation and athletics as well as the physical campus, which started in a borrowed classroom and now encompasses 15 downtown acres. But MSOE: The First 100 Years is not just the story of bricks and mortar - it's the story of the people who passionately and whole-heartedly believed in the university's educational mission and ensured its survival for a century

The book, MSOE: The First 100 Years, is available for $49.95 through MSOE's Bookstore, http://www.msoe.edu/centennial/historybook/ or Harry W. Schwartz Bookshops.
